Youth Team Move Top With Win
Youth team boss Tony Philliskirk praised his side following the 1-2 away win at Grimsby last weekend.
Ryan Scholes-Beard and Harry Norris netted the goals for Phillsikirk’s men who moved top of the league with that win.
Philliskirk said: “We played so well particularly in the first half. We went in 0-0 at half time and wondered how we weren’t three goals to the good at least.
“We created good chances but on another day we could have been out of sight. We spoke at half time about the need to move the ball quicker and then two minutes into the second half, we went ahead.
“It was good interplay and Ryan Scholes-Beard showed good feet and shot under the goalkeeper to put us ahead.
“It was a great reaction and I thought we would go on to win comfortably but I’ve got to say fair play to Grimbsy. They totally changed their system and went man for man all over the pitch and stopped us playing.
“The referee gave a penalty to them and then they equalised and it rocked us for a while. The game became really scrappy but we started to get a foothold in the game and started passing the ball better.
“With 10 minutes remaining, young Harry Norris, the centre back, anticipated a ball from a corner would go over a defender’s head and he volleyed it in from eight yards.
“We don’t score many of them and that was a result of us winning the game so it was great. We had chances to get a third but it wasn’t to be.
“On a difficult surface, and in difficult circumstances, the lads are starting to find ways to win games. All in all, it was a good strong three points.”
